The main goal of any communication is to determine what message needs to be delivered and how to deliver it clearly and concisely to the intended audience. For this discussion, research the web and the SNHU Library databases to discover support for how we identify what message needs to be delivered to the intended audience and what methods we should employ to deliver the message concisely and with the highest level of clarity. In your initial post, complete the following:

  • List at least one resource in APA style.
  • Briefly summarize the main ideas from the resource.
  • Explain how this resource can be used to identify what message needs to be delivered to the audience and/or what methods we should employ to deliver the message clearly and concisely.

In your responses to your peers, compare and contrast your findings with the findings of your peers. Are there any additional ways, other than those mentioned by your peers, that this resource can be used to identify what message needs to be delivered to the audience? What methods we should employ to deliver the message clearly and concisely?

HIST _TEK _TSKS x

This course includes five short writing activities that will require you to create different types of technical communications. These are designed to actively test your understanding and to apply your knowledge to potential real-world situations. These writing activities also provide practice in communicating your reasoning in a professional manner.

The Importance of Clarity and Conciseness (Module Six)
As the new corporate communications manager, you have come across many examples of ineffective communications, including some older directives that were never carried out, mostly because of their unclear nature.

One example included an email stating that the recipient (within the research and development team) was to “create a presentation discussing the new product and send it to interested departments.” Others included a request from sales to technical support for “a list of the biggest problems with our hot products” and a memo from finance to all departments to “reduce the number of suppliers being used to better control costs.”

Develop step-by-step instructions that the international gadgets (IG) departments can use to help craft clear and concise directives. Your instructions must include the following critical elements:

  • Introduction: Explain the issues with unclear directives and how these instructions will help alleviate those issues.
  • Audience Analysis: What steps should an IG department employee take to analyze their audience for communication?
  • Message Determination: What steps should an IG department employee take to determine the message for a communication?
  • Clear and Concise Writing: What steps should an IG department employee take to ensure that a communication is written clearly and concisely?

Company Background
International Gadgets (IG) is a multinational company of 1,300+ employees and over $4 billion in revenue. Headquartered in Manchester, New Hampshire, the company designs, manufactures, sells, and supports a variety of low- and high-tech business productivity tools.

IG has manufacturing facilities in Detroit, Michigan, and Shanghai, China, and sources component parts from suppliers in Vietnam, China, Brazil, and the United States. While IG maintains sales offices in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, London, Munich, Paris, Moscow, and Brussels, its products are sold throughout the United States and all of Europe and in China through a partner firm. IG employs a direct sales force targeting its top 1,000 customers, and it also sells via its website. Sales offices also include service and support operations, managed separately from the sales teams. The company is considering expanding more directly into China and exploring the possibility of opening a sales office in Beijing.

IG’s current top-selling product is the Office Drone, which was designed for workplace monitoring. The Office Drone is a small, unstaffed aerial vehicle for indoor use that includes real-time video monitoring and a targetable built-in water pistol and reservoir. The Office Drone is marketed to management and security teams to break up water cooler conversations and other nonproductive behaviors among groups of workers.

IG has introduced several new products and experienced rapid growth during the past year, with many new employees in all departments. The management team has greatly expanded as well. It includes several first-time managers, and the team is experiencing difficulties functioning as effectively as it has in the past. Communications within and between all parts of the organization, external partners, and suppliers and customers are at serious risk of completely breaking down.

In a recent example, Detroit Manufacturing was unable to meet a product delivery deadline because of parts shortages from supplies. (The component parts originated in Brazil and had been seriously delayed due to a dockworkers’ strike at U.S. West Coast ports.) The manufacturing team believed they had informed the sales team of the delay, but the sales team indicated they had never received that information and ended up losing the customer to a competitor. In another example, European sales were impacted when Switzerland unexpectedly devalued its currency, impacting IG’s profitability. Revised profitability forecasts were provided by several of the European sales offices, but others did not understand the request from the corporate office because of how it was worded, and the delay in response led to unnecessary costs.

Prof Double R

Scenario

For the purposes of this assignment, imagine you are a researcher of human cultures, an anthropologist who is looking from the future back to our world today. In this position, you develop a natural curiosity about cultural works and how they represent a particular culture. You are also curious about how cultural works influence the environment in which they exist. You are new at your job, and your first project is to conduct a thorough analysis of today’s culture via a cultural work, looking to understand how it represents culture and how it reflects its cultural environment. The results of your analysis will be used to craft the copy for a brochure accompanying a museum exhibit about cultural works of the current year.

Directions

Analysis of a Cultural Work
As an anthropologist, you will start your task by analyzing the work of human creative expression that you selected in Module Four. With this work in mind, respond to the questions below. Remember, the insights you gain here will be used to write the copy that will go in the museum exhibit brochure.

Answer the following questions:

  1. Describe the work in detail. Consider the following:
    1. Where did you see the work?
    2. What elements or characteristics stand out to you?
  2. Describe the purpose of the work. Consider the following:
    1. What do you think the creator intended to express?
    2. Were they successful?
  3. Use the work to explore how acts of creative expression impact and are impacted by the people and situations that surround them. Consider the following:
    1. What contributions does the work selected make to continuing a dialogue about that culture and the importance of its works?
  4. State questions you have after thinking deeply about this work. What more do you want to know regarding the following?
    1. The relationship between culture and expression: What is the relationship between the possible intent of the creator and your own interpretation of its meaning?
    2. Explain how your values have shaped and are shaped by your expression and that of others.
  5. Explain how you would approach answering these questions:
    1. What would you study about this work that might address the questions you stated?
    2. Where would you find information to address the questions?
Next, draw conclusions about how the work you selected relates to the humanities:
  6. Explain why you believe humans have a need to express themselves through created works of cultural and historical significance.
    1. Describe a culture shift or event related to the work you selected. This could be a cultural shift that influenced the creation of the work, or it could be a cultural shift that came about because of it.
    2. Explain how a concept or resource you encountered in this course has informed your explanation. Be sure to cite any sources used.
  7. Explain how you think the act of human creative expression impacts and is impacted by the culture in which it was created.
    1. Explain the relationship between human creative expression and the culture in which the work you selected was created using the insights you gained from studying it.
    2. Explain how a concept or resource you encountered in this course has informed your explanation. Be sure to cite any sources used.
  8. Explain how you believe human creative expression can impact issues we deal with in the present day (contemporary to your coursework, not the future scenario posed above). Be sure to be specific about the issues you are addressing.
    1. Use the insights you gained from studying the work you selected to explain how creative expression can impact today’s issues.
    2. Explain how a person or concept encountered in your study of the humanities has informed your explanation. Be sure to cite any sources used.

From Selma To Montgomery

From Selma to Montgomery

Using Chapter 8 of Eyes on the Prize, discuss how the march from Selma to Montgomery in 1965 became a victory march for much of the early civil rights movement while also revealing how much more was left to accomplish. How did the march led by Martin Luther King Jr. embrace not only the victories of the 1950s and early 1960s, but also show promise for the future?

  • Your response should be at least 750 words in length
  • Any resources (including textbooks) must be cited and referenced in adherence with APA documentation

Description

Description

Primary Response is due by Thursday (11:59:59pm Central), Peer Responses are due by Saturday (11:59:59pm Central).

Primary Response: Within the Discussion Board area, write 300–500 words that respond to the following questions with your thoughts, ideas, and comments. This will be the foundation for future discussions by your classmates. Be substantive and clear, and use examples to reinforce your ideas.

For this Discussion Board, please complete the following:

A warehouse management system (WMS) is a software application that is designed to organize and streamline a company’s warehouse, distribution center, and operations. The WMS allows the company to manage the entire process, from choosing the right materials to improving quality and increasing timeliness.

Assume that you run a fulfillment center (think Amazon) that requires the picking of one to several items per package for your customers. The day is very chaotic with inventory and employees are busy on the floor, often covering many different areas to fulfill the needs of the customers. Management disagrees on the tools your company is using to provide efficient quality service to its customers.

Review What is a Warehouse Management System (WMS), and answer the following questions:

  • Explain the benefits of using a WMS rather than a physical inventory system for a large company. Use examples in your response.
  • Discuss the challenges that a large company like Amazon might run into if it kept physical inventory with required inventory levels. Use examples in your response.
  • How does a WMS prevent user error in inventory management, such as incorrect orders, incorrect order quantity, inventory overages, and inventory shortages? Use examples in your response.

Determining Audience Needs (Module Five)
As the new corporate communications manager, you have developed a good idea of the various internal and external audiences for communications across the enterprise.

You have learned that IG is organized into six main areas, and each area has its own structure:

  • Research and Development (R&D): New Product Development and Product Enhancement teams
  • Manufacturing: Detroit, Shanghai, and Purchasing teams
  • Sales and Marketing: U.S. Sales, U.S. Marketing, European Sales, European Marketing, Partner Management, and Online Sales teams
  • Technical Support: the exception, as there is only a single team handling this function
  • Finance/Accounting: Corporate Finance and Corporate Accounting teams
  • Human Resources: Corporate HR team with ties to HR representatives at each work site

In addition to the internal departments, IG staff interface with a wide range of external entities and individuals, including customers (large accounts, individuals via web sales), distribution partners, component suppliers, subcontractors (design and occasional manufacturing). IG also contracts with Amazon to handle all its product logistics—warehousing, packaging and shipping, and returns.

IG will soon launch a new accessory for the Office Drone: Speaker+. Speaker+ attaches to the Office Drone and allows the person controlling the Office Drone to have a voice conversation with a person near the Office Drone. The Corporate Communications team is responsible for developing communications for all stakeholders to announce the launch of this new product.

Write a memo to your communication team that uses specific details to address the following:

  • Analyze IG’s internal and external audiences.
  • Recommend how the new product announcement for Speaker+ can be tailored to the needs of each of IG’s audiences.

Mmw Discussion

Conceptual Problem 1 (Zheng He’s expeditions):

Socio-economic impacts of Zheng He’s expeditions.

Level-3 Question 1:

What impact did Zheng He’s expeditions have on the socioeconomic system in China?

Thesis Statement:

Zheng He was a Chinese admiral that administered numerous voyages across the Indian Ocean. His naval expeditions allowed the Chinese to “secure and construct diplomatic ties with other nations while developing the trade between the East and the West” (Mane, 2). Not only did Zheng He obtain riches throughout his journeys, but he established long-term relationships with other countries which led to positive growth of the Chinese socioeconomic system.

Conceptual Problem 2 (Vasco de Gama):

The Portuguese king’s skewed interpretation of de Gama’s voyage.

Level-3 Question 2:

How did the Portuguese king’s interpretation of de Gama’s voyage have an impact (if any) on the political-economic system in Portugal?

Thesis Statement:

Vasco de Gama traveled to Calicut in search of Christians and spices but was met with a series of controversies. The Hindu king believed that the Portuguese had nothing to offer, and despite that, the Portuguese king stated in a letter to Spain that they had “brought a quantity, including cinnamon, cloves, ginger, nutmeg, […] also many fine stones of all sorts” (de Gama, 3). This letter may have led Spain to organize expeditions to Calicut, as well as engage in trade with the Portuguese due to the many goods that the king had mentioned. Only to discover that de Gama had not received anything and that the Hindu king would not be so willing to trade with foreign parties. Therefore, the king’s inflated letter could potentially result in a decrease in trade and a sense of distrust towards the monarchy from a foreign standpoint, which would greatly impact the country’s political-economic model.

Week 5 Discussion Board

This week you are going to practice identifying conceptual problems, formulating Level 3 Questions, and producing thesis statements. Just as a refresher, here is how I would define a conceptual problem and Level 3 Question:

conceptual problem is a historical issue wherein you can find some question, controversy, contradiction, or gaps in information. It can also just be something you found yourself curious about when doing the readings.

Here are some examples of research questions based on last week’s readings:

  • Different responses to the Black Death
  • Socio/economic impact of Black Death (Was the Black Death bad for everyone?)
  • Early-modern gender norms (Did they change during the Renaissance?)

Level-3 research question focuses on the conceptual problem’s controversy, contradiction, or gaps in information. A Level 3 Question has these characteristics:

1. Open-ended and has multiple possible answers.

2. Can be answered using evidence and inductive logic.

3. Is similar to a conceptual problem, but more specific and focused

4. Should be specific enough that the question can be addressed within the allotted word count.

Here are some examples of research questions based on last week’s readings:

  • “How did the Sunni Muslim community in Damascus respond to the Black Death?”
  • “What economic impact (if any) did the Black Death have on the middle class in England?”
  • “What impact did the Renaissance have on Italian gender norms?”

For this week, I would like you to identify 2 conceptual problems in response to this week’s readings. Next, write 2 Level-3 Questions – 1 per conceptual problem. When developing your research questions, consider how different readings (and Professor Wood’s lectures) from this week fit together conceptually. For example, the first two readings are on Zheng He’s expeditions, so you should consider both readings when formulating a research question on this topic. Finally, write a short answer (thesis statement) to each of your Level-3 Questions.

Your thesis can be short, but it should clearly and concisely answer your Level-3 Question. Include a topic sentence, evidence, and analysis of why your evidence addresses the research question. Your evidence should reference at least one of the readings (include in-text citations.)

**Label each part of the assignment as follows:

Conceptual Problem 1:

[1 or 2 sentences]

Level-3 Question 1:

[1 or 2 sentences]

Thesis 1:

[3-5 sentences.]
